Does anyone actually expect to be able to enjoy their Thanksgiving holiday with the big 12/1 looming over the horizon?

Honestly, if I can manage to keep down one piece of turkey I will be pleasantly surprised...

lol, we should make this the official countdown thread...

I consider you all lucky to be getting your acceptances so soon, and lets face it, anyone on SDN will most likely be accepted. I myself am applying this May and already freaking out!!! SHEESH! Enjoy it guys, I still have a year of freaking out to do...good luck all.

if everyone on sdn is going to get accepted, and you are on sdn posting this, then therefore you will get accepted and need not freak out 🙂
seriously though, i'm sure you'll do fine. just start preparing early as i see you already are, and you too will hear from schools on dec. 1 (of next cycle). 🙂

off topic: does anyone else have trouble reaching the sdn website occasionally? at least a few times a week there will be an hour or so where i can get on all other websites fine, but i will keep getting the 'unable to reach page' screen for all sites connected to sdn. anyone else?

iYes it would be great if everyone heard, but in all likelyhood maybe half the SDNER's will hear next week.

HD

im using zone alarm pro and it blocks sdn by default, I also use peer guardian and imported the block list (dont think this would affect it though). Try to disable ur firewall and see if u can get in. Then you could make an exception for sdn in ur firewall. Remember to check windows firewall too (if using XP)

i don't think its a firewall or site blocker though b/c i can usually get on, just now and then i can't. thanks for the input though.

It happens to me alot too.. but it usually works within a few hours. I guess i am not as nervous as everyone else here because all my interviews are after Dec. 1st.. so I dont expect to hear anything unless its from Marquette or Creighton. Not to say i wont be freaking out right after my interviews.. 🙂 Good luck to everyone..

funny. i can always get on the main SDN site, but sometimes can't get onto the forums. everything else works, though. 😕

maybe someone's trying to tell me that i post too much? 😀

now that i think about it i suppose i can usually get on the main sdn site also, but not the forums.
lol, when this first started happening i was also like man, did i get banned or something, i didn't think i said anything bad or was on here too much... 😀

I am planning on dealing with my anxiety over December First by way too much food on Thanksgiving!

way to go! let's eat those anxieties into submission!! (and the remaining time between turkey day and 12/1 will pass that much faster, because we will be comatose...) 😀

Yay! An official countdown thread! Good to know I'm not the only one going nuts about it.

Has anyone decided whether they'll call up admissions offices on 12/1 to inquire about their status (to get the dirt before a letter has time to arrive)?

I got the impression from most schools that they do not want us to call them.

I happened to be on-line earlier today and as I clicked to read a thread, there was a message that read that there was some sort of "administrator maintenance" happening for the next 15 minutes. So, I opened another page and like you, I could not reach it. So, maybe they do these updates quite a number of times, because like you, I also feel like there are many times when I'm unable to reach this website. I also have wondered if there are too many people logged on, therefore we are unable to log on at the same time. I have wondered the same thing for a while as well.

9!

(that's nine-yay, not nine factorial)

I've actually felt that up to know I've been able to keep my composure and I've been pretty patient throughout this whole process. However, I'm finding myself very anxious these last couple of days. I still have 2 more interviews after Dec.. one on Dec. 3rd and the last one on Dec. 9th. So, even if I hear anything after Dec. 1st from the other schools I've interviewed, I still feel.......... like I would like to know the outcome in all my interviews right away!!

Just venting... but I know this process is winding down and it's a matter of a very short time 'till we find out our fate. Good luck to all!!!!!!

Just out of curiosity when did people get their interviews?

I received my interview INVITATIONS 1st from Iowa in Aug, 2nd from Colorado in September, 3rd and 4th from Washington and Louisville in October, and the most recent from Arizona in November. Again, these are invitations, not actual dates of attendance.

i had one interview in august and two in october and i was offered a fourth one a week ago.

Mine's kinda Texas-specific, but FWIW I completed the TMDSAS in late June and got three September interviews.

Doh! 😡

The anticipation/anxiety over waiting to find out if I'm going to be accepted or not this year is in the back of my mind all of the time. I find that just about any conversation I'm in with my friends or co-workers can set me off into a discussion about some aspect of applying to dental school.

Co-worker: Hey, did you go get your flu shot yet?

Me: No, but that reminds me...did you know that there is just seven more days until I find out if I've been wasting my life and money applying to dental school?

or another example...

Friend: Hey, are you going to your parents house for Thanksgiving?

Me: No, I'm going to my sisters house...do you know that I might get accepted on December 1st?

I'm starting to bug everyone around me. My wife, who is the most supportive person I know, is starting to cringe when I want to rehash some aspect of the "what-if" game.

LOL!! I feel exactly the same way. My hb is the same way... every other word I say refers to some aspect of this monster process. All he has to do is look at me a certain way and I know.... THis is driving me insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared:

So, what will happen after we find out??? What will we worry about next? There's always something else.. where to live, moving, financing our education, etc!!!! It will never stop from this time forward. Get ready, because this rollercoaster ride is about ready to turn bigtime in the next few days or so and will continue at top speed for the next few years!!!

I plan on moving from the west to the east coast and just crunched some numbers yesterday and its going to cost me $3,000 to move! I think I'll be a little worried about that.

Ah, but you can write off your moving expenses for graduate school (which is how the government classifies dental school). So hopefully you can recoup some money.

Here is a link to a company that some of my friends have used to move, and they saved some serious money. They bring a trailer to your place and you rent the space out by the foot and load your stuff, they deliver it to your new place and let you unload it. Gasoline and taxes are included in the price, and if you have a lot of stuff to move and don't want to mortgage your first born to UHaul or United Van Lines then you should at least check it out.

Ya, I searched this website and got a quote for 2100 dollars. Its by far the best out there.

I'm just a little worried about their validity. Your friends did it and everything was fine? Don't want all of my stuff never making it to my new home.

Yup. You pack it yourself so you are responsible, or rather have control over, the quality of packing. The trailer is sealed and driven to your new place. They said they didn't have any problems and really recommended it to me.

my bf is applying now too, so he isn't bothered by my being worked up about 12/1. but i am sure i have been bugging every other pre-dent i know for the past couple weeks with my well meaning but probably nosy questions: "what did you get today?" "have you heard anything?!" "how'd you do on that dat retake?" "any interviews?" 🙄

I actually have the opposite reaction. I told myself to not thinking about Dec 1, but most people I know reminded me about it. I have an uncle who callsedalmost every week to ask if i have received any acceptances. My friends asked about it whenever they saw me. So, instead of I who inititated the topics, people I know did. And every time I have to tell them that I have to wait until Dec 1 as the earliest time to know and I might not get any letter until January or February......It really bugs me when I have to answer them over and over again with the same answer " I don't know because schools will not let me know until at least after Dec 1." I think my family and friends are more anxious and "nosy" than I am.

The waiting sucks!!!

What exactly happens on December 1st? Is that the day dental schools start mailing out acceptances, or the day that they actually get to you? Or is that the day that you can call up dental schools and ask them if you were accepted or not? Man, I think I'm starting to freak out.

Well I know UF calls those who are accepted early that morning....and I mean early....like 6 or 7 am. They could call me at 3 am if they wanted! 😀

they are officially allowed to tell you... so, they could mail them out the day before and you could recieve them on the 1, or they could just mail them out that day and you recieve them later. either way, if you call them then they are officially allowed to tell you if they want to. i am not sure if schools like people calling them though.

I know exactly what you are talking about. The same people keep asking me if I have heard anything yet and I keep telling them "Not until after December 1st." I swear I've told every friend and family member about 20 times but for some reason they just keep asking. I mostly want to get in so they will all quit asking me.

do schools send out rejection/waitlist letters on dec 1st? or, can i assume safely that any mail i get from a school on dec 1 is happy news?

I would venture to say that if they contact you right off the bat it probably will be for an offer of acceptance and not a waitlist notification. But, you never know...

i guess we can abandon the countdown now that some schools are already accepting... i expect on mon and tues we will see acceptances from more schools as well. congrats everyone!!

wow
this thread brings back so many memories. i remember i could hardly sleep, eat, or do anything right around these days. one thing though, not all schools will send out acceptances b4 dec 1st. for those of you who ware anxiously waiting for dec1st, i wish you the best of luck. heck, i didnt even sleep the night b4. i couldnt wait till my clock said 5 am (pacific) so i could call.
well, hope everyone gets the news they have been waiting for.

so interesting to see so many of you guys here tonight. i know this number will double tomorrow night.

honestly, i cant believe its already been a year since i was here anxiosuly browsing SDN the night b4 dec 1. next thing you know, YOU would be doing the same.

good luck to you all.
