You will not get in anywhere with a 2.3, so I would raise the GPA before you bother applyling. I have a feeling you mean 3.3 GPA, if that is the case I would take MCAT and apply as soon as you can.

I think the minimun GPA cut-off is 2.75. Unless you get your GPA above those numbers, I wouldn't recommend applying.

I recommend trying to get into a physician's assistant program.

When I got out of undergrad I had a 2.5 GPA. Two years and ~40 credits of repeats later, my GPA is up to a 3.2. I'd say take that extra year or two and retake all your classes that you've gotten below a B in and get all A's. Since AACOMAS replaces repeated classes, your GPA will be much better. I'm applying this cycle, so let's hope that people in our position can do it.

Physician assistant requirements are just as high, if not greater than DO's. They no longer have the retake policy and you need alot of patient care experience to be even competitive.

so here's the scoop...
I was kicked out of college but have moved to a different location and now maintain a gpa of 2.3 which is my first semester at this college.

My average on the MCAT so far has been a 29/30 range which i know i can improve.

wow... you really have to wonder about the posts on SDN, how many flat out liars are there? Is this possible? Perhaps dual personalities, one that has a firm grasp on biology, chemistry, physics, Ochem... And one that can't pass a course? VERY INTERESTING

its as real as can be. the lack of motivation and health reasons were the cause of failing out.
I'm sorry about the health reasons. You haven't replied to the poster above that asked if you meant that you had 3.3 GPA. If you meant that, then you're in the ballpark for DO schools. However, if its a 2.3 GPA, its below the minimum GPA for DO schools. However, you didn't factor in all your courses, it may be higher...although you said you failed out.

A 29/30 is "amazing" since you failed out and you haven't taken Ochem yet. Must be a nice VR score.

To sum it all up, if your GPA is a 3.3 already and you're scoring in the high 20s and low 30s, take Ochem during the summer and the August MCATs and apply. However, if its a 2.3, I would advise waiting to apply, take your courses (get your GPA to above 3.0 if possible), rock the April MCATs next year and apply early in the cycle. (somewhat like your option #2).

Anyways, best of luck!

with a 2.3 GPA you will get rejected pre secondary everywhere in the U.S... I wonder what some student's think about being a pre-med.. It gets on my nerves when people with bad grades talk about being a "pre med" or wanting to go to medical school.. THIS PROFESSION IS FOR DEDICATED STUDENTS WITH GOOD GRADES AND LOTS OF VOLUNTEER WORK. not for 2.3 GPA students..

You need to get your post count up before someone takes you seriously. KID.

I bet you're some 17 year old, that hasn't even started your college coursework yet. Be careful, karma is a B&^$.
