Hi all!

I got accepted to UIndy, AT Still and Dominican University of California. I have unfortunately(or fortunately for those on the waitlist) let go of UIndy because I am from California and couldn't picture myself there. However, I am struggling hard between the other two. Can anyone give me some insight on how you have chosen your programs?

AT Still- I got accepted into the OTD program(3 years) and its about 90,000; This program is not officially accredited and is under the process, and should be by 2019. I did get offered that if after the first year I wanted to do the MSOT instead I could, which is accredited and is about 70,000

Dominican- I got accepted into the MSOT program(also 3 years) and its about 86,000; Higher ranking, accredited.

Both are small class sizes Arizona is cheaper to live at than San Rafeal, but at the end of the day how do I know what outweighs what? helppp

ANY INPUT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Hi there!

Congrats on your acceptances to both schools! I would say enroll in Dominican University of California, because it's accredited already. It's risky to enroll in a school that's non-accredited, but if AT Still GUARANTEES that you can transfer to MSOT after one year, then choose AT Still. However, I never heard of a program that allows you to do that.

Good luck! 🙂

Its pretty rare that a program who has gotten through the first year of accreditation would not make it all the way through. I wouldn't let that scare you off. These programs know what they are doing in regards to gaining the status.

I think the option to stop at the Masters is a nice bonus. Housing can make a large difference, so I would look into that. Also, ask the programs if they have big brother/big sister components for orienting to the area. That always helps out when you have someone to lean on.

If it comes down to it... lean toward the learning environment where you would feel the most supported. And maybe in the end.. it really doesn't matter. Flip a coin. 😉

Congratulations on getting into both programs! I don’t know much about AT Still but I do know about Dominican since it is close to where I grew up. When completing my observation hours I became very close to an OT who graduated from Dominican a few years ago. From all the information I got from her it sounds like a great program. The school campus is small but beautiful and the location is great for clinical placements. I was also worried about rent but she said that a lot of the OT students rent houses or apartments together and when split up the cost isn’t too high. When I interviewed I really loved the program but I got accepted to Samuel Merritt which was my top choice, so I won’t be attending Dominican even though I did love it.

Thanks for all the replies! You have all been super helpful. Unfortunately after looking over everything, especially the costs, I have decided to give up my spots for each of these and will be applying next years to some more affordable programs. Best of luck to all of you!!
