There are tons of FMGs filling US allo residency spots right now. Increasing numbers of United States MD grads will put the clamps on them (then DOs, then fellow US MDs... exactly as was said in that thread). I don't think that the fear of a US MD school grad, who passes steps 1 & 2, failing to get a US residency is real or ever will be in our lifetime. The increasing costs of medical tuition and increasing applicant pools may make it tempting to keep opening schools, though.

I agree that podiatry has to be more mindful, though. The DPM grad numbers have to be matched pretty closely with the number of quality DPM residency spots. Many good points in that regard were made in the "do we need another pod school?" thread. It's interesting stuff to think about. We don't ever want to become like Caribbean med schools where half the grads can't get decent US residencies.
