Can someone tell me the quick and dirty about southern blotting and development of bands? I don't remember this at all, other than that it has to do with electrophoresis and DNA. Thanks!
extract dna, cut it with restriction enzyme, separate via electrophoresis, transfer into a nitrocellulose membrane. Expose membrane to probe DNA (labeled DNA). complementary regions will hybridize with one another.
basically, you are using your probe DNA (labeled DNA) to fish out anything that is similar (complementary) to it.
