Hey everyone,

I am a student at a US med school but am looking for a caribbean med school for a friend of mine.

I've looked at all of them and noticed that Spartan is the cheapest, not just that you can finish it in 3 years and despite the flack that it gets.... it is possible to practice in 45 states with it. So why not go this route... I also feel that small classes will be better, instead of say entering classes of 300+ students like in some of the big carib med schools. I think if you're a hard working student, you should be able to succeed anywhere.... so why not spartan?

thank you for any replies....

I've met a handful of those spartan students. School size was like 30 big total on the island. Everyone knows everyone.

Haven't been that impressed by them though. Many had yet to take Step 1 and were in clinicals. They're is a difference in the education as well. You should have heard and seen how a lot of them wrote SOAP notes, performed a physical exam, etc.

I had never heard of the school until I had run into them.

There are a lot more factors than speed and cost to consider when considering a caribbean school.

A few of them had said that they would have rather gone to a bigger carribean school.

Personally, I'd ignore the rest.

It depends on what you want.

This school does not prepare you for the steps. You will have to do a lot of preparation on your own. There are also some "conditional" drawbacks on passing the 4th trimester. Check out the link at the bottom.

You get what you pay for. Cheap tuition = cheap education.

Yes, you can make it at this school. If your sole focus is to be a doctor and nothing else, you can make it anywhere - including Spartan. This school leaves a lot up to you. The education is lacking and you, you-alone, will have to fill the holes.

You get what you pay for. Period.

Graduating and getting a shingle that says "MD" does not necessarily mean you will get a good residency appointment, nor does it mean you will subsequently be granted a license to practice medicine.

Caveat emptor.
