Wondering if anyone had any info on the program in Spartanburg, SC. Any info from those that interviewed there or have knowledge of the program would be appreciated.

I have a close friend in residency there. It sounds like a wonderful program. The residents are extremely busy operatively, even by community standards. And not just 'bread and butter' stuff- lots of big cases with surg-onc and vascular, as well as general surgery. I think it is a level I trauma as well. No fellows, small program (3 per year?) at a very busy hospital so the operative experience is tremendous. Apparently the residents come out of there very confident and skilled. I have also heard that they do exceedingly well on the ABSITE most years. Many of the residents have secured strong fellowships. Dont know much about the city of Spartanburg. He hasn't really said anything bad about it. Sounds like a great place to do a general surgery residency.

Do you have any info on how the atmosphere is among the residents and the attendings? Really appreciate your comments.

Basically the opposite of malignant based on my interactions during my interview. Hospital system has a lot of money, is actively expanding. City is also expanding rapidly and greenville nearby adds a lot of culture to the region. Very good if you are interested in a community program.
