A Friend of mine, who is attenting UCONN told me that he recieved special accomodations for the DAT. He got extra time and a seperate room. I want to see if I can get theses special accomodations. Just a quick question: He said that he got "Time and a Half" on the DAT. Im not exactly sure what that means. I know that the DAT is 4 hours long and half of that is 2 hrs, and so he got 6 hours, BUT.. How are the 2 hours divided up?? Evenly among the four sections???? or what??

I'd appreciate it if u can give me some input as to what that means, and is special accomodations is actually helpful !!

Thanks guys. !!

I doubt you will get these accommodations, unless you medically need it... It also sounds fishy to me that they give extra time, and if you just want extra time to do better than your not cut out for D-School... why should you get extra time and everyone else who takes the test doesnt? I honestly hate it when people try to cheat the system... So study for the test like everyone else and take the test like everyone else, your not special

I highly doubt that. I don't know how one could be given extra time on an exam like this. That would be really unfair. I think scoring 23+ AA is relatively easy then, had it been 6 hours long instead of 4 hours.

I don't know how it works with ADA/Prometric, but I know at many schools all you need to get extra time is a documeted case of ADD/ADHD for a period of 3+ years.

It is legally required of places to accommodate ADD/ADHD because it is considered a disability by the ADA (American's with Disabilities Act).

Some people just baffle me...

I had this explained to me before. You get the extra time, but the schools are notified of this fact. Whether it is fair or not, I believe some schools hold the extra time against you.

Fair enough

I think you've misunderstood what special accommodation is for. Like a poster said above, it's for people with ADHD. I'm sure you didn't mean to ask how would one go about getting special accommodations if they did not have this medical disorder, because that would just be unethical.

How much is time and a half?? I think i might get tested for some ADHD. I just want to know will it be beneficial. ??

I know the test will be 6 hrs instead of 4 hrs, but how is the extra 2 hours distributed with the four sections.

Thats all.

You THINK you might get tested? If you have ADD/ADHD and get tested for it, it's pretty clear cut I think. Not to mention you would have to have had it for at least 3 years like somebody else said...this prevents people from just saying they have it to get the extra time on the test. If you NEED the extra time, you'll get it. It doesn't matter how.

If you have to be diagnosed for 3+ years as the post above suggests, what does it matter to you? Unless you actually have ADHD, I would just study for the test and take it. It's really not that bad. You just have to give up your free time for a couple months.

You do not need to be diagnosed for 3+ years. That would be discriminatory.

Ok... I think we should look at the bigger picture and answer the true question.

Everyone here is what? At least around 20 years of age approximately?

How in the world do you not know that you have ADHD by now?

Good point- my little brother was diagnosed with ADHD when he was around 4 or 5. It became obvious to all of us that he was a little special when it came to paying attention and staying still lol.

Yeah... I think its usually pretty obvious. I mean if a strange vibe even crosses your mind at any point 🙄

Well, my mom had already had 3 of us, so when he came along, the differences were pretty obvious. We noticed it, teachers noticed it, and even he couldn't stand it.

Why don't you ask your friend who received special accommodations? He/she would be a better source than those of us who haven't been granted more time for the DAT.

That's all.
