Speciality and residency

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, just look at U of Louisville endo program, everybody is either from Louisville or from Kentucky, or has done GPR there. However, they may be exception rather than a rule in other schools.

I don't think residency programs care where you have residency

Does anyone know if the state of residency still matters when you are applying for residency?

I guess ultimatly, it depends on the program. Some programs might very strict about taking only in-state applicants, others might be 50/50.

Besides, when you are talking about super competitive programs (OMFS, Ortho, etc etc), you got like hundreds of people applying for like.... 3 positions, with this kind of heavy competition, state-of-residency is almost irrelevant since most likely, more than 90% of those applicants are out-of-state

What if say I go to a public dental school of another state (Say Texas). If I apply for specialty at that school, will I have less chance than my classmates because I was originally from another state?
