Specializing- UoP vs UNLV

Hi🙂 I was wondering what your opinions were for specializing at UoP versus UNLV. I also got into NYU. I am currently interested in Oral Surgery. If you have any suggestions please let me kmow😳😍

really :/ I hear its really hard, but I feel like a lot of dental schools are hard. I dont know if the three year program makes it ridiculous though. Now im a little nervous because it is/was my top choice but I really want to have the opportunity to specialize,

I dont doubt the experience of the last poster's friend; however, I have heard from many dentists that I've shadowed that their impression is alot of specialists come out of UoP. I've also heard they're P/F (confirm?).

If you work hard, put in your best effort, and really try for your goals, you can pretty much specialize at any school except for maybe the new schools.

UOP gets the vote though in my opinion. Work hard, play hard. You've already made it this far so you can go all the way. 3 year program can't be beat and UOP has an excellent reputation.

If your interested in OS UNLV is the place to go, because they don't have OS as a specialty program (yet, they're thinking about adding it, but it probably won't be soon) you get WAY more experience in OS...so if you're that committed UNLV is the place to go!

At the interview for UNLV, they had mentioned that this graduating class - 6 students got into OS programs. That's a pretty high number. But like others have said, pick a school that you really like. You can get into specialty programs from any school and who knows, you may change your mind in a few years so don't let that be the only deciding factor.

UOP is def not P/F. I know cause I am loving all my Cs on my transcript. Let me tell you that if you're a good student, you'll have the chance to specialize at any school. You really need to be an excellent student, manage your time really well, and good at memorizing if you want to specialize coming out of UOP, especially if you want to do ortho or OS. Why do I say that? The biggest challenge is the time factor. Nomatter how much work u had in undergrad, you're always given the proper amount of time to study and do well in exams. UOP's pace is pretty much a running train, it does not stop until the friday before finals. On top of that, you have quite a lot of pre-clinical projects that are due every Wed and Thurs. If your handskill is not there to start off with. You will have to cut down a lot of your studying time. Also, you're physically drained just by being in class and stayed after school to work on your preps. Your brain is not well rested and for a lot of us. We might be studying a lot but definitely not retaining information as much as we're able to back in undergrad.

There's always a chance to specialize at UOP just like any other schools, the question is; Do you think you can physically do it?

hmm thanks for all the advice. This is so hard. I know I am prepared to work hard, which anywhere you have to to do good, let alone get into OS. But I just wanted to make sure at UoP its possible.

I am definitely leaning towards UoP but I hope I can manage and still make it into an OS program there.🙄

It is definitely possible here at UOP. People get into ortho and OS every single year. Hopefully you pick the school you feel right, good luck deciding.

Thank you🙂 and you just made me feel great about it. I love everything about UoP. My sister went there and the faculty and students are so warm and friendly. I was just worried about that one factor, but you helped a lot.I appreciate it👍🙂🙂
