Is it possible to work full time and do the additional course work at night in order to specilize? Just curious. or do, you have to do it fulltime

all specialty programs are full time, some may let you "moonlight" which means practicing general dentistry on the weekends, etc.

I don't see how. I didn't work in dental school and barely had time to eat and crap during the same day. I think people tend to severly underestimate the time required in dental school. On the other hand, I worked 25-30 hours a week in med school...that's the ticket if you want free time.

That was my thought at first as well, but then I saw the "additiona course work" part, which makes me think the OP is referring to the additional education needed to specialize.

I don't think so, especially given the fact that so much of residency work is clinical work. There simply wouldn't be any time to run a practice, and I'm sure it wouldn't be allowed.

You could moonlight as a general dentist (depending on the program), but I think that is a far cry from actually running a practice.

The faculty do not teach night classes at any dental school that I know of. Moonlighting would be your only option as others have said.

Now I understand. It seems to me that specializing is not really "coursework" like getting your GED at night. Specializing is a full-time endeavor, regardless of specialty, and you are there only for that purpose. Any other opportunities that might come along (moonlighting) is just secondary.
