Specialties shut out with a 241 step 1 score

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nothing is shut out at 240+, if you find yourself unable to match to a specialty you're defective somewhere other than step 1 score

Not many.... but probably Rad Onc (although thats anecdotal since I met someone this summer with a 260 from an Ivy school taking a year off to be competitive for that field). You're below avg for probably plastics, derm, ENT and very likely below avg for the direct Interventional Rads residencies opening up. Also the average for Ortho this past year was ~245 but I wouldn't say you should discount the specialty because of that score. Also, direct CT surgery is probably competitive...

yes, very anecdotal. Rad onc is competitive, but a 241 is more than enough. consult match data. average for rad onc is about 241.

Rad onc competition is more on the # of publications side and even more so, being able to match into a specific location (given the limited number of positions). But if one has solid stuff including research, and is willing to apply all around the country, it is completely doable. In fact, 44/50 matched with 231-240 and 53/55 matched with a 241-250 (i believe if they had at least one interview)

Thanks for all the feedback. I guess I felt a bit uneasy since everyone here on SDN post 250+ score.
