Specialties

I've worked as a recruiter for the past two years for a company that staffs across the country. In my experience, the jobs that pay the most are with home health care agencies, with long-term care (i.e. nursing homes) as a close second. From what I'm told, most new grads/current students are looking to work in outpatient care, so it's more saturated than other specialties, if only very slightly.

I know that part-time and PRN jobs are very easy to find in LTC. I imagine that they might be more difficult to find in outpatient clinics, but it seems like PTs don't have a very hard time finding work in whatever area they want to work in. I've seen extremely high PRN rates (~$70/hr and higher in LTC) in very rural areas with a small PT population; interestingly, there are some rural areas that have an average PRN rate of $40/hr just because the market is saturated due to a nearby school (or schools in some cases).

It's my understanding that you can find a job in whatever specialty you want, but you may have to consider relocating to find the right job at the right price. I'm just on the recruiting side of things now, though, so take that for what it's worth. Any of you PTs out there in the field want to confirm or deny this?
