Someone from my class sent this out, and I thought it was a good diversion. The site allows you to fill out a survey and shows your compatibility with surveys filled out by physicians in different fields. What I found interesting was the information on each specialty. Does anyone have any other links to compatibility tests like this one or websites with information on specialties?

I hope the link works.

To be or not to be. Is that really a question???

I just took the thing and it said my most compatible specialty was anesthesiology with 21.61% (the lower the number, the more compatible). That's funny, since just recently I have been thinking that rather than a surgeon, I'd probably really enjoy being an anesthesiologist a lot more.

PS, General Surgery was 6th on the list with 40.45%

I took the test and my number one was dermatology. Thats scary. Now I'm looking at Sports Medicine FP route. It was ranked like number 10.

1. infectious diseases
2. nephrology
3. oncology
4. neurology
5. hematology
6. neonatal
7. pulmonology
8. pediatric neurology
9. medical genetics
10. family practice
...
bottom 5
ob/gyn
dermatology
thoracic surgery
pathology
diagnostic radiology

sounds about right other than infectious diseases, genetics, FP... looks like i'm applying to medicine and figuring out fellowships later.

turns out I really don't want to be a child psychiatrist...haha I could have told you that! Its funny though, lately in an attempt to narrow down my options I made a top five that included neurosurg, radonc, GI, Cardio, and ortho (I know...I'm all over the place)...and all of those showed up at the top of my list...along with EM and neurology which I've always liked. This thing works I guess!

top 10

1. Neonatal - Perinatal Medicine
2. Gastroenterology
3. Radiation Oncology
4. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
5. Anesthesiology
6. Medical Oncology
7. Cardiology
8. Neurology
9. Orthopaedic Surgery
10. Radiology - Diagnostic

bottom 5

5. Internal Medicine
4. Psychiatry
3. Obstetrics and Gynecology
2. Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
1. Medical Genetics

How can IM be at the bottom when GI, Onc, and Cards are on top? Well I got all three areas I am currently interested in on my top ten. I'm not sure if I still like Radiology anymore.

Ophthalmology
Dermatology
Otolaryngology

Radiation Oncology
Gastroenterology
Colon and Rectal Surgery
Urology
Sports Medicine
Orthopaedic Surgery
Plastic Surgery

Wow, six of my top ten are areas I'm interested in. The thing must be doing something right. I put Ortho #1 though. Now if I can get a good score on Step 1 and 3rd & 4th year rotations I might have a shot at actually doing one of those.

These tests are foolish because you can make them say whatever you want them to say. Everyone knows how to answer the questions right if they want to surgery, deal with children, etc. It is not that hard to figure out what they are getting at if you look at the questions (at least in the ones I have taken).
chill out francis, this isn't a fortune telling machine. it's just something that spits out results based on your preferences for various aspects of medical practice. if someone can't be honest with their preferences for something like this then that's their pathetic problem.

hmm, i guess my assholishness of late isnt a fault of character, but rather a career decision:

1. thoracic surgery (10.86)
2. vascular surgery
3. ass surgery
4. general surgery
5. peds surgery
6. neurosurgery
7. gastro
8. vascular/interventional rads
9. sports med
10. ortho (17.89)
22. EM (42.8) 😡
29. medical onco (56.86) wtf?
last. child psych (162). your kids a ******.

edit: the virginia one
1 orthopaedic surgery 39 :scared:
2 otolaryngology 38 🙄
3 general surgery 38
4 occupational med 38 😡
5 emergency med 38
6 colon & rectal surgery 38 :barf:
7 gastroenterology 37 +pissed+
8 endocrinology 37 😴
9 cardiology 37
10 pulmonology 37 👎

what the motherfu<king fu<k???

I took both of the aptitude tests with about the same results.
Tops for me include Neuro, Rheum, Med Onc, Peds. These are all careers I am interested in. The nice thing about these tests is that it gives you a general guide to medicine v surgery I think.

Hmm. I said "High pressure!" "High stress!" and what did it give me as my top match? DERM.

My real match was in the middle of the list.

Orthopaedic Surgery
Plastic Surgery
Pediatric Surgery
Urology
Gastroenterology
Otolaryngology
Cardiology
Pulmonary / Critical Care Medicine
Radiation Oncology
Sports Medicine

Dermatology
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Radiation Oncology
Allergy and Immunology
Ophthalmology
Otolaryngology
Neurology
Gastroenterology
Preventive Medicine

yeah. i was leaning toward anesthesia. But derm will do.... but like hell i'll get into a derm residency. seems like this one was easy. I picked a few answers that I don't remember now, and then i said that income was very important.

i guess these are some of the top paying specialties.
