Hello all
I got into two schools that have almost all specialties, but one requires you to be a US citizen for the specialties i am interested in.

so I am wondering how important is it to go to a school that has all specialties (and will consider me regardless of me being canadian) if you are planning to specialize?

Do most grads that go on to specialize get into specialties at their dental school?

Really appreciate your response.

all these views and no one is willing to respond. come on people help a brother out.

you are asking for specific answers on kind of broad questions....

either way, if you want to specialize, you will end up applying to more than just your pre-doctoral school

If you are wanting an answer to your question, maybe you should ask this question in the residency forum. They are the ones who have/may have experienced this.

This can be less beneficial in your dmd/dds program as the specialty programs might compete for patients. But you might get to know the program directors before you apply-this could help.

There are more students interested is specializing than there will be openings at each school's program. Especiallly for marginal candidates.

Not important. Most specialty programs only accept only 1 (sometimes 2) top student from their own dental school. If you were not the top student in your class, your chance of getting accepted to a different school’s specialty program would be a lot higher than your chance of getting accepted to your own dental school’s specialty program.

Most grads get into specialties at different dental schools (or hospitals). Nine students in my UCLA class matched to ortho. Only 1 guy went to UCLA ortho program and the other 8 (me included) went to different ortho programs.
