I'm just curious...does anyone know how much someone who specializes in something makes? For example, I'm currently interested in Internal Medicine and am curious as to approximately how much they make. I also am interested in academia (i.e. teaching in a vet school's teaching hospital). I've looked and looked, but haven't had any luck. I was thinking maybe someone on here could maybe help me out. I know that salary is dependent on the surrounding area/part of the country.

That's why I love this site...everyone is so helpful! If only vet school had this sort of response time...i mean really.;)

Does anyone know the average salary of an intern and also for residents?

Depends on academic vs. private practice, area of the country, and residency year of training.

Go to www.virmp.org, click on "program search," and fine whatever programs you're looking for. Clicking on the individual programs will give you the salary of each position at that institution.

Wow, I went through some of them and it looks like intern salary ranges from about 25K-35K :( I know of vet assistants and technicians that make this same salary....how are we supposed to pay off our loans again

Well an internship is only about a year, and I believe loans are deferred during that time, so no need to pay them off while earning so little.

By finishing your residency and going on to make over $100,000/year as a specialist... Human medicine residents make crap as well. It's all part of the process :p

But our crap, is double your crap!
