Are there specialties where you do some primary care along with your specialty?
the general cardiologist i shadowed prior to med school acted as her patient's primary care doc in many cases. she would regularly sight that as one major reason she appreciated cards.
Many nephrologists are primary care doctors for their dialysis and transplant patients. Some oncologists are primary care doctors for their cancer patients. Many heart failure cardiologists are primary care doctors for their end stage patients. Some pulmonologists are primary care doctors for their end-stage patients. Hospice and palliative care doctors are primary care doctors for their patients. Some rheumatologists are primary care doctors for their severely diseased lupus patients. Many HIV doctors (ID or gen med with interest) are primary care doctors for their HIV patients. PLUS you can do primary care with any medicine subspecialty if you want to do so. Geriatrics is a primary care specialty by CMS definition.
Nephrology came to mind.
