on the dat, do they ask about specific reactions using just the name of the reaction? like.... which of these is gabriel synthesis or what products would be formed from the witting reaction? did anyone come across questions like this when they took the dat? because if i see a reaction i'll know the products and what happens, but i don't really know the specific names.

I would like to know as well!

And also,

I am wondering, is remembering roughly what reagent the reaction uses sufficient? Like, I've got it in my mind that any alkene or alkyne reacting with a mercury compound + other will result in markovnikov anti +H and +OH.

I think that you should learn the names of the really common reactions 🙂.
That said, I do think that knowing the -common- names are just fine and will be sufficient to at least rule out some of the choices.

Just took the test yesterday and I did have a question that asked, which of these is Diels Alder Reaction. Luckily I knew what that was 🙂

mine didn't have anything like that. DAT orgo is 10000 times easier than the the actual class. i couldnt believe how simple it was.

both times I took the exam I had a question that asked about a naming a mechanism and a reagent (common name not chemical)
they were not very difficult so don't stress too much
