Sorry if this question has been asked in some form below, but I'm new here and wanted specific advice. I currently attend UNC Asheville (the liberal arts college of the UNC system). I am a second semester freshman, in the honors program, and made a 3.9 GPA my first semester. I have gotten tight with my chem professor and regularly talk with many of my other professors outside of class. The reasons I am mentioning this is because I am considering transferring to UNC Chapel Hill.
Breaking it down, I see it as the following:

Pros: More prestigious undergrad school, potentially better professors (bigger names), more class selection variety
Cons: Will not be on as personal a level with professors, small fish big pond verse big fish small pond, transfer credit difficulties of course

So the question I have is how much does the name of your undergrad school mean for medical school applications? Is it better to take full advantage of a small college and graduate with lots of distinctions or work just as hard at a large university and graduate with less distinction but the name of the school behind you?
Thanks

It will make a small difference if any at all. Go to the school you will get the best grades at. You will thank yourself in end. Unless you are unhappy where you are, stay and make sure your chem professor writes you a LOR that basically says you walk on water.
