Background: I am at an academic center and feel the workflow would be improved with an additional PA. To facilitate this request to the "powers that be," objective numbers are beneficial--we collected about 10 comparisons through colleagues at different sites, but I'd like the sample site to approach ~50.

Objective: To collect and compare specific metrics across nationwide training sites.

Request: Please reply with total number of surgical cases per year w/ number of PAs & number of residents grossing on a given day. If possible, please specify academic or private. If you feel comfortable providing geographic region that would be helpful.

Example response: Academic, midwest, 20000 cases, 4 PAs (+/- biopsy tech) & 1 resident in gross room each day.

Any additional info that you think would be beneficial is welcome. Many thanks!

Academic, ~80-90K, 11 PAs (+2-3 biopsy techs) & 3-4 residents in gross room every day (residents gross 3-4 hours per day, no more)
PAs also help out with autopsies and teaching (surgpath bootcamp), PA sup doesn't gross.

We have 3 PAs with 80k specimens plus some grossing techs. No residents or pathologist grossing. Large hospital with many big cases. But we need to add one more PA. Voila le difference between academics and private jobs.

That being said though, our PAs are unbelievable.
