For those who have taken it, did you encounter a lot of spec questions? What depth were they (conceptual or quantitative)?

I'm just trying to gauge how many abstract numbers I need to memorize, haha. IR spec seems easier to memorize than H-NMR. Any recommendations?

they're not gonna test on obscure numbers. For example, for IR, you should know the 1700-1800 C=O stretch region and the -OH and NH2 stretch above 3000.

For NMR, they like to ask questions like which of these aromatic compounds will produce a singlet, and you would choose the one that's symmetrical (so there's only one type of H.

i can't remember exactly, but i think i had one or two spectroscopy questions.

I had one ... had to identify an alcohol by the IR ... I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been possible to have been any easier
