Hi everyone! After doing some research on SLP master's/post-baccalaureate programs, I still feel a bit lost and am in need of some insight. I am currently a biology major at a 4-year university, and I will start my fourth year this coming Fall. I have decided that I do not want to take the med school route, but instead pursue speech-language pathology. Unfortunately, my undergrad GPA is not competitive enough (I have a 2.97 at the moment) and I have no experience in the SLP field (I was previously a pre-pharmacy major until this year when I decided that pharmacy was not the right profession for me). However, I have interviewed a few speech therapists and I am hoping to obtain a volunteer position at a clinic this summer.

I'm hoping there are some of you out there that wouldn't mind answering my questions (even if you can only answer one question, any sort of advice you can offer is greatly appreciated!)

  1. How competitive is it to get accepted into an SLP post-baccalaureate program? Do I stand a chance of being accepted into a post-bac program if I raise my GPA to at least a 3.0?
  2. Do you know of any schools that accept students with above a 2.5 GPA (for either post-bac or master's programs)?
  3. Aside from working to boost my GPA, how else can I make myself a more competitive applicant?
  4. Are there any specific classes (i.e. language classes, psychology classes) that you would recommend that I take in order to prepare myself for SLP coursework?
Thanks for all your help!
