Edit: So seminiferous tubules make spermatids and the epididymis makes spermatazoa.

Yeah it starts as a spermatogonium in the outer seminiferous tubes and migrates towards the epididymis as it completes. By the time it is a spermatazoan, it is in the epididymis.

I thought the seminiferous tubules is where the whole spermatogenesis process occur? Isn't spermatozoa produced in the seminiferous tubules, then migrate to the epididymis to mature? This sounds similar to what you're saying chiddler, but the minute difference is that I said the whole process including spermatozoa happens in the ST. Right?

Hmm I think we're saying the same thing. I agree that when they become spermatazoa, then they are in the epididymis. And the whole process occurs in the seminiferous tubules. I just added that they start in the outer and migrate inwards towards the epididymis.

Hmm I think we're saying the same thing. I agree that when they become spermatazoa, then they are in the epididymis. And the whole process occurs in the seminiferous tubules. I just added that they start in the outer and migrate inwards towards the epididymis.

No, sperm that leave the seminiferous tubules are not mature; they can't move or fertilize. They gain the tail and (i think) the acrosome in the epididymis.

This clears up everything. Immature spermatozoa is produced in the ST but the tail and acrosome is formed during its storage in the epididymis. 😀
