I know the general consensus around here seems to be listing athletics, hobbies, artistic endeavors, etc. on the primary application is a great way to make yourself stand out from other applicants. How many schools' secondary applications also ask you about hobbies and the like though? Would it be bad if you listed everything on the primary application so you had nothing new to list on secondaries?

Just FYI my "hobby"-like activities I would like to list somewhere include playing soccer in city leagues since I was eight and all through college, sailing both recreationally and competitively small one-man sailboats, playing/writing my own music on both guitar and piano, while occasionally performing with other musicians at coffee shops, etc. around the city (I live in Austin, TX), and recycled clothing/fashion design (I cut up old clothes and put them back together into something new, as well as create designs to go on T shirts and then stencil them onto the shirts).

Should I list all 4 of those things on my primary app (I have the space), or save one/some for secondaries that may ask?

Thanks!! 🙂

put that soccer sht down ronaldo (and whatever else you want), they are not likely to ask about hobbies on secondaries

Many secondaries do ask how you will contribute to the entering class. You could write a paragraph to elaborate upon experiences/hobbies/interests that you briefly listed on AMCAS.

koko wins. close thread

Fake EDIT: Totally right. Don't "save the good stuff." You can VIEW all of last year's secondaries in the school-specific forum. If you DON'T list stuff, schools may NEVER know.

Good advice. Great avatar.

Too bad the game actually ended.

I remember a couple of schools' secondaries basically wanting me to write a second personal statement without repeating any of the information from the one for AMCAS. I didn't fill those out

Yay for reapplicants! We already have multiple PS to choose from 🙂

I would list them on the primary app. Of the 17 secondaries I did, only 2 had specific sections asking about hobbies/extracurricular activities- this is in addition to the essays. A few more asked about health care & leadership activities. Go through the secondary prompts and see what the schools you are applying to ask for.
