Hi,

What can PM&R docs do for people with spina bifida?

I just came back from spina bifida camp for kids and was just wondering how they treated these patients.

Assessment of degree of impairments and disability. Prescription of proper wheelchair and/or other mobility aids. Prescription of braces. Prevention of complications such as pressure ulcers, UTIs, bowel impactions. Treatment of spasticity. Education of patient and caregivers. Prescription of medications for spasticity, pain. Prescription of physical, occupational and speech therapy. Ongoing assessment and re-evaluation of the progress of the above.
