In regard to the onion-skin regions, is the clinical significance just that progressively higher lesions of the spinal trigeminal nucleus results in deficits of pain/temp progressing medially in the face?

So a very low lesion of the spinal trigeminal nucleus would spare pain/temp around the nose, eyes, and most of the face, but not around the ear. Versus a lesion higher up that affects pain/temp around the cheek would also affect pain/temp in facial areas posterior and lateral to the cheek as well.

Is that right? I can't ask my neuro professors these questions because if they think it's too detailed for our class (i.e. they won't test it) they will just say not to worry about it. Awful situation, but it's what I have to work with.
