Spinals for PSLF

Just wanted to get consensus on spinals for patients with prior fusions. Some school of thought say go above/below the surgical incision for the spinal and not through the incision. While others say its ok to to through the incision. What's your preference?

i go through and then thank the surgeon later for marking midline.

I'm posterior fusion, rods and screws are lateral, usually.
