Trying to plan my schedule for senior year and I need to take a 1 credit course each semester to hit 12. My school offers a bunch of sports courses under the KIN title, like tennis, basketball, self defense, karate, etc. Would taking one of these 1 credit courses each semester be looked down upon by ad comms?

While I'm talking about schedules, is there any reason to take genetics other than for the mcat or so you have a background for med school? My advisor recommended it but I've heard MSU's DO school is the only school in the country requiring it and it's not necessary. I have other upper level science coursework such as physio 1, physio 2, biochem 1, biochem 2, pchem, anatomy, capstone lab, etc.

Thanks!!

no and no. but it is important to have a good foundation in genetics. Do you think you are weak? I hated genetics because I had had 90% of it many, many times. There was genetics in cell bio, bio, micro, biochem, etc.

No worries about KIN.

As to genetics, some allo schools recommend or require it.

The thing about genetics that I'm curious about is that I'm applying this June. Even if I take genetics fall or spring semester I'll likely already have applied, interviewed, and (hopefully) been accepted by the time genetics would be done or even start. It doesn't really seem like schools that recommend it would actually care and I can't imagine them accepting you on the condition that you take genetics (unless they actually require it).

BTW, do you happen to know the MD schools that require it?

They will care- reqs only need to be done by the time you start medical school. As to recommends- if they've taken the time to mark it off, they would like to see it.

In my sig is a link to Bryn Mawr's pre-pro site, they've got a pdf of the schools with maths/science req/recs.

another question as a follow up to OPs, i also will not need that many credits to graduate next year, but will have to stick around for the full year because the required courses are sequenced (like fall then spring). So, does it look bad to only be taking the minimum 12 credits to maintain fulltime student status?

Take self-defense or karate, you might need it if you go to an inner city school.
