Does anyone know the best way to be privy to the spots that are held to the side or open up in any given year for someone to slide into that wants to get into Rads? Is it through PDs or by emailing random programs to see if they have a spot? I haven't gotten good advice or know-how regarding people trying to do this. I didn't match so I'm wondering. Thanks in advance,
G
All of the above. It takes being proactive to secure a spot outside of the match. Get your CV together and your personal statement. Cold call every program in the country explain your situation and fax them your information. There is no easy way to go about this. Every year a few people get spots this way. If you want to be one of them, you've got to put in the effort. As scarce as these spots are, and as competitive as it is to get into the field, No one is going to volunteer this information and bring it to you on a silver platter. There are scores of people out there in your situation that wait for openings to be posted on Auntminnie. The reality is by the time the position is advertised, its no longer available, and the majority of these people will never become radiologists. If you don't want to be like the rest of them, take the initiative. You
can get into radiology if you want it bad enough!
Good luck
