Just to put this out there. How many students take their spouse on rotation with them? Would a rotation still provide housing for both student and spouse?

Everywhere is different, but most of the program provided student housing is quite small and meant to accomodate just the student... usually just a twin bed in a bed small apt, dorm, or even a hospital room or call room that's meant for one student. Some are a room in an apt or larger dorm, call room, etc... which is usually double/triple/etc occupancy with other med/pod students.

Most students who want to have their spouse +/- family travel with them use alternate living arrrangements during the month... short term leases of larger apt, etc. You could talk to the programs you will be getting housing from, but most I've ever seen barely have enough room to house the students, and even that's often first come, first serve. Make your arrangements and housing confirmations ASAP after being selected for the clerkships.

I didn't take my spouse/kids for most of my rotations just because of expenses. If the program does provide housing, it is usually only for the student. So getting a place for a family can get $$$. I did do one rotation in my hometown and we all stayed at my parents place so that was fun. Externships were exciting and I learned a lot but I sure missed my family.
