I was wondering what people thought about taking Orgo II, Cell Bio, and Physics I all in the same semester. I go to an academically rigorous school where taking 4 classes is the norm and not many people take 5. My academic advisor says I should add physics next semester because it will give me more options if I want to be a chemistry major, study abroad, ect. My pre-med advisor says that I should not add on physics cause it will just be too much to handle. Some students at my school say that this is doable and others say it is not. I've done well in my science classes so far (A's and A-'s). Orgo I is definitely more difficult than G Chem for me, but I think I will get a B or higher. I am good at math. I took honors physics in high school and it was probably the hardest class I took, but usually when I see things for a second time they are easier for me. I was also considering taking only the three sciences (Orgo II, Cell Bio, and Physics I) to focus on them, since I had 4 AP credits coming into college, so I would still graduate on time without having to take a summer class. Also, I was thinking I would get involved with research, so if I took three classes next semester I could potentially spend more time volunteering in the lab. So my questions are:
Do you think that taking those three classes with a fourth class would be too much?
Would only taking three classes look bad to medical schools?
Should I just wait and take physics my junior year?

Thanks!

As you have already pointed out, that schedule is doable for some but not for others. Only you know if you can do it.

I would take as many classes as you can while still getting As. If you choose to take less, then make sure you are occupying your free time with meaningful ECs.

I would suggest taking the heavier course load for the first few weeks and see if it feels manageable. If you feel like you can't keep up, just drop a class before the drop deadline.

I can't necessarily speak on your behalf as for academics, but I can give you a general idea. If you have had AP Physics, Alegebra-based Physics I and II should be relatively easy. 3 science courses, with one of them being physics, should be more than manageable. My AP Physics was leaps and bounds more difficult than my college-level Physics course. I think I only got a 4 on the AP exam, but I did not struggle at all when other students were. That was even considering I took Calculus-based Physics. Again, as with all courses this will be based on individual aptitude and professor. If you passed the AP exam I imagine you will think it's a cakewalk, particularly so if you take Algebra-based (which is fine).

If you are still a full-time student they will not notice.

I spent about half of my undergrad taking 3 science courses with lab and an additional general education (humanities) course. It's time consuming, but if you are willing to put in the time you will do absolutely fine.
