Sooo...do vet students get Spring Break? Do you actually get to enjoy it, or are you too busy studying?

Hopefully it will be somewhat restful. I'm getting in DVDs of my favorite TV show (Lost) and will spend some time watching those. Plus I'm helping out with interviews, which are over our spring break here. Then I'm headed to SAVMA symposium, which I hope, after a long semester and a half of classes, will remind me why I want to be a vet because it has been a long year! I don't plan to study at all. YAY!

Definitely have spring break, over two weeks this year! We have quarters in the spring instead of a semester so we had all our finals/midterms (depends on if the class is one quarter or two) so there is absolutely nothing hanging over our heads at the moment. It is glorious 🙂

We have a week off, but two papers due within two days after we get back, so the big push is to get those done before spring break starts next Friday.

Yeah, right--we have one exam this Friday, and then two (including neuroscience) exams next Friday.

Looks like I'll be working over break...not nearly as much as norml, though! 🙂 And I'll be visiting my brother in Atlanta. 🙂

That is one of the nicest things about quarters. For all of your breaks you have absolutely no work to do as they come at the end of the quarter. It makes breaks a lot more relaxing!

I've had to write a few papers. My most recent one was about live reptile import/export legislation for my Animals and Public Policy elective class.

I will be visiting Colorado over spring break and seeing what Ft. Collins is like! Since it is my number one residency choice (lord I am only halfway through second year, why am I thinking about this already??😀) I figure I had better go see it. Also gonna be hitting Tucson AZ to check out their Veterinary Diagnostic Lab, if possible, and the Desert Museum.

But I have 2 core exams the week I come back so I can't be tooooo happy go lucky😳

I think it depends on the school. So far, the only paper we've been required to write was a disease report for bacteriology and several "mini" reports for the same class. We also have the opportunity to earn extra credit by turning in short papers on physiology or virology, but they aren't required. I don't think we have anything like a full-fledged term paper to write in vet school, though I imagine those doing research will be expected to write up studies and case reports.

As for me, I plan to relax and spend time with my kids and hubby, help out a bit with interviews, and then end the break by attending Symposium.

As others have said, it depends on the school. Last semester I don't think we had any; this semester, our physio instructors seem pretty big on it. Both physio papers are group papers/presentations, to boot--so five people working on an endocrinology case report (?!) and a different group to write about a topic in cardiovascular physiology (glad my group was willing to go with bacterial endocarditis, which I feel pretty passionate about! 😀).

The other one is for our ethics class--no big deal, but we have to interview a couple of veterinarians.

They're not term papers like undergrad or anything--at least, not so far!!!!

Oh spring break can't come fast enough. The first weekend I'll be flying to Michigan State for a judging contest, getting home Sunday. Then it will be study like mad all week to try and catch up as well as clean the house because my parents are coming to visit. Hopefully I can take Friday off from everything and spend the day with the little one and maybe catch up on sorting through and posting some more photos on my site. *sigh* One week definitely won't be long enough. 😱

I wish I could spend my spring break doing absolutely nothing. As it is, I am planning my wedding, volunteering one day to help with interviews, and studying for a combination of virology and physiology. I hope to still enjoy it - there's talk of some of us going to an amusement park (we'll see if it actually happens).

It will be a definite relief. This semester has been week after week of tests since January. i'll be glad to get a week off.

Our spring break falls during SAVMA symposium and Easter, but I'm not going to symposium this year. My dad just left for Iraq for a year (he came out of retirement at age 57 to do so) and I'll be going up to visit my mom.

Your dad is awesome!! 😎 I'll keep him as well as you and the rest of your family in my thoughts while he's gone. I know how hard it is having someone over there. 🙂

That is amazing! I hope everything goes okay for him over there. You'll have to let us know how he's doing.

Thanks guys! He retired from the Army back in the mid 90s as a lieutenant colonel, got a job elsewhere, and never liked it as much as the military. My brother did ROTC at Creighton University and he graduated last spring, so while my brother was getting ready to go into the Army himself, my dad got all gung ho again. So he got himself back into the Army and will be off in Iraq for a year being some kind of officer liason between the American, British, and Italian troops. Nothing too hardcore, but still. I guess that's his idea of a midlife crisis is playing soldier boy again. 😀

Even though I have a cardio paper and an ethics paper due the week I get back from spring break, I am determined to still have a BREAK from school. I'm flying home for several days and then my bf and I are driving to Chicago for two nights. It's not much but it is something to look forward to. My brain is fried from too much studying/school.

Have fun in Chicago, Ruffian 🙂 Hubby and I went for 2 days over the weekend after Valentine's day. I highly recommend Giordano's pizza. They always look WAY busy, but you pre-order your pizza while you wait for seats, so it's there about the time you sit down. If you haven't picked a hotel yet, I can tell you we got a good deal on Sutton Place, and it was a really nice hotel.
I'm going to symposium, and doing my first "triathlon" it's a mini....mini triathlon, indoors. 20 minutes each of swimming, biking, and running. I can't run for 20 minutes straight yet so we'll see how that goes.
I'll be on the bovine palpation team at symposium. A team of second years competing against a bunch of 3rd years who have already had therio, YAY! Or not . Anyone else camping? I did not want to spend the money for a hotel room so two of my friends and I are determined to camp.
I also have to get a project together for my practice management course, make up my presentation on BVD in non-bovines, and get everything ready for the yearly vet school open house. No rest for me!

We get a week off. I'm going to devote a substantial chunk of it to studying, resulting in ridicule from a lot of my classmates. Meh, I'm betting they're "closet-spring-break-studiers" because it is after all a fantastic opportunity to play catch up.

It's funny you mention Giordano's. My roommate is from Chicago, and she loves their pizza too. In fact, all she talked about before winter break was going home and eating Giordano's! Since it comes so highly recommended, I guess we'll have to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion about the hotel, but we already booked a room.

I hope you have fun at symposium!
