OK, I know this has been discussed before, but I think the situation was a bit different.

Apart from getting above a C in spring courses, is there any way doing less-than-excellent in your spring classes (after acceptance) could come back to bite you in the butt in the future? I just cannot motivate myself to care about getting A's in the 3 classes I'm taking this semester. Will bringing my GPA down at this point hurt me at all? What about for scholarships or something? Also, would a W matter if it's not a required course for the school I'll be attending?

I'm just trying to make sure there aren't any unforseen problems where I'll be kicking myself later and really regret not getting three A's.

I'd do whatever you had to do to kick yourself in the ass and get motivated. You will have plenty of time during the summer to get re excited about vet school - A BS/BA is still a degree. Might as well, after all this time, get the best GPA possible.

In a few days, the excitement will pass (for now). God forbid, you relax a bit, and that B turns into a C or D.

I'd go out, have a few drinks or something, then remember what you did to get this far, and keep doing it.

Congrats BTW

I'd have to agree..that is great advice. By doing your best and getting good grades after an acceptance only makes you look better and responsible. Show them that you are going to give it your all until the end!!

Congrats and good luck!!

Alright, alright. 😉 You're right, of course. It's not so much excitement about getting accepted (it's been a few weeks already actually), just not being able to motivate myself to care when I know I don't *need* to do anything spectacular. I was kind of hoping someone would give me a good reason that I need to get A's this semester. Usually I would do it just because that's the kind of person I am - I think most of us try to always do our best whether we see the point or not - but for some reason this semester is just not clicking for me.

Guess I should get off SDN and start studying!!

EqSci, I think you and I are afflicted with something called "senioritis." 😉
I feel the exact same way, but I can think of two anecdotal instances where a last semester's grades did matter, even post-acceptance. When I applied to one of the Aussie schools, they suggested I send in my high school transcript in addition to my college transcript. If I had slacked off that last semester of high school just because I was already accepted to college, it def would have looked bad.

Also, my dad, who is an engineer, recently decided upon a career change to teaching at a charter school. There was a vigorous application process (because the school is really high end) which required his college transcripts and a GPA above 3.6 (?) I believe.

Point being, you never know down the line when you may want to apply for a new type of job. Perhaps you may want to delve into veterinary academia. It could be anything, but you just never know. And if you let a few C's on your transcript, it may make the difference. I don't think you necessarily need to get straight A's, but keep it within the A and B range and you can still have fun or relax.

Some scholarships do ask for your undergrad GPA. How much they weigh it I don't know but they do ask....

Have fun studying!

I am having the exact same problem! I feel like I have stressed so much the past couple of years to get into vet school. And now that I have, I cannot make myself worry about my classes AT ALL! I'm not really sure what to do either....

I was also wandering how a W looks on a transcript if its not required for the vet school?

Thanks all! Glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. Looks like I just have to suck it up. And I realized I won't get a full refund on my class if I withdraw, so that option is out for me anyway. Maybe that's true for you, too, aussie?

We can whine together, along with hopefulvet. 😉

I have said this a few times on these boards; you NEVER know what life will do to you. Why we all like to think it would never happen, sometimes life forces you to discontinue your current plans (for vet school, for working as a vet) etc. It would be very embarrassing to then have to write out an explanation of why your GPA took a nose dive the last semester of college..... I can't imagine, unless there are exceptional circumstances, a way to explain that which doesn't sound like senioritis or laziness, or mentally departing before the completion of your degree. It might also affect final graduation honors.

Several vet school scholarships (from the school or outside sources) ask for your final undergrad GPA and your undergrad transcripts, epecially when you have a year or less of vet school under your belt. Don't slack off now!!

Boy, if I had a dollar for every time I kinda gave up on something because I thought it wouldn't be relevant to my life...and later discovered that it had become VERY relevant.....I'd be Bill Gates by now. Oh wait, that would require a gender reassignment.
