Hello, I'm just wondering what is up the future of E-Prime? I really don't know too much about this software but my school just got a grant and were using some of it to invest in changing from SPSS to E-Prime. I just took a stats class learning SPSS so I'm wondering if SPSS will be obsolete some day? I hope it won't be. And what exactly is the difference? Thank you for any input!

Why the heck are they changing their name to be PASW? Anyway, I think SPSS will still be a major player. They are the dominant player in Psychology right now and I don't see that changing unless others pass them or they become too expensive for people to afford (which I feel they aren't far from now).

Regardless, it is good to know two statistical packages. I bounce back and forth between SPSS and SAS, and it is nice being able to use both as you can use whichever is best for the analysis you are performing.

I thought E-prime was for data collection & analysis for behavioral & neuro research. I don't think it's really a replacement for SPSS.

If someone wants to learn an analysis program other than SPSS, my suggestion would be NCSS.

Yeah, that's the impression I had as well.

I think SPSS, SAS and R are going to dominate the industry in the next 25 years

The above posters are correct, E-Prime is used for stimulus presentation, behavioral assessments, things of that nature. It has some features for processing, but is no more a replacement for SPSS than Microsoft Word is a replacement for Microsoft Excel.

SPSS isn't going to be obsolete anytime soon, so I wouldn't worry. Different programs are better for different things.

thank you for all that replied 🙂

I downloaded a free demo of E-prime and now I understand its purpose. It's a pretty neat software program for behavioral experiments. I just need a way to figure out how to use it ha.
