St. George

I'm trying to get some information on St. George for vet school. Does anybody have friends attending? Has anyone worked with the graduates? I have worked with a number of Ross graduates, they are equally capable in all respects and I was wondering if the general consensus on St. George is the same (or at least similar). They also offer the dual DVM/MPH so if anyone has info on that I would greatly appreciate the input.

one of my friends just graduated from st. george. she loved it down there, and now works as a large animal vet. she thought the school prepared her really well for the "real world" and she spent a semester at kansas (due to hurricane ivan) and a year at PEI (for her 4th year rotations) and didn't have any problems anywhere adjusting to the courseloads at the different schools. she liked how much surgical experience she got on the island (via what they get on the mainland) but acknowledged that her radiology/ultrasound needed some serious tuning when she got to PEI. she said if anyone is choosing between ross and st. george, she knew kids that transferred to st. george from ross and their complaint was always that ross always over-enrolls, so they try really hard to make some kids fail out as freshmen.

Had a friend of a friend attend St. George. Did not like being away from home, but his grades were just not good enough to get him into a school on the mainland. However, he went there for three years then did his 4th year rotations at Oklahoma State and is now a very successful equine veterinarian working with race horses (I believe). Anyway, here is a success story.

I'm applying there (waitlisted at Georgia, inteviewed at tuskegee and waiting to hear back). I've heard the hands-on stuff can't be beat, especially in the earlier years. One vet I know said the students from there have excellent surgical technique. Plus 96% of their students pass their boards the first time around...also I think living away from the us would be an awesome experience. I considered this school independently of if i'd get in at the us or not...soemthing to think about!

Yea Max Power I know what you're saying. I'm 24 and would like to start vet school soon so I've been considering just applying to St. George and going if accepted. But I've never been through the American school application process and I should probably try it at least once. Who knows?

Kinkajou, I *never* applied to a US vet school. I got into Glasgow so I went! It was such an adventure. Living outside the USA is an experience not-to-be-missed. Just think of how your memories of vet school will be - peppered with beautiful scenery and of a variety of accents, foods, animal breeds, climates...just lovely.

Just think of how your memories of vet school will be - peppered with beautiful scenery and of a variety of accents, foods, animal breeds, climates...just lovely.

nice to hear it said by someone who's been through it...it sounds so amazing to me...just as an overall experience. Im really considering it, regardless of if i get into the us schools or not.

What about taking pets other than cats/dogs? (i.e. parrot)
Does anyone know if there are restrictions with importing exotic pets?
