St. Georges Pre-med program????

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well from what I understand it's a ripoff and a scam to make SGU a ton-o-money. As you should know it's a three tier system where you are accepted into pm-3, pm-2, or pm-1 based on previous science courses completed and how many college credits you have. That's three full years of matriculation BEFORE you ever become a MS-1. They charge you an arm and a leg and many of the courses are of questionable selection and quality.

Now, given that you can go one of hundreds of reputable post-bacc programs, or your local state college to do the standard pre-med pre-reqs in 1 year if you're determined at a fraction of the cost and with far superior quality, why on earth would you go to SGU? Oh, right, the guaranteed acceptance. However, if you do marginally well on your MCAT and your pre-reqs you're in anyway, or at the very least in at Ross, AUC, Saba, SMU, or MUA.

Unless you are in LOVE with Grenada (I actually am and was married there on the island of Carriacou) why would you do that?

Just something to think about...

Not yet.. i ask because my best friend who just graduated from Ross told me that Ross is a "sink or swim" school and he also told me that i should just get the pre reqs and apply, of course do my best on the MCAT. He told me this because he personally knows two fellow students who got there 90 credits and did alright on the MCAT. He feels really confident that i will get in. He also feels that the school doesn’t help the students at all. It’s like a "weed out" type attitude.
I have a 3.1 GPA. My Sciences are even higher. i am a EMT, i worked in Peds ER for about a few years (40-50) weeks. I was also a medical missionary for two years in South America. NOW here is the deal. I don’t have my organics or my physics. My true brother is just starting his 5th semester in the St. Georges program. He recommends that i just should finish the year on the island because he also knows people who went this route and are kicking but in med-school right now. St.Georges told me that i will probably be placed 2nd year/2nd half of the program. It depends on them.

Still up in the air but what ever… I am dedicated to working hard but I am kind of concern about Ross. My best friend who graduated from Ross went through a divorce while at Ross. He said that they didn’t support him for nothing. I want to know that I am at a school that wants me to become a doctor.

Thanks by the way.

Although some may not agree with my perspective, I say that if it is only one year extra then you might as well go to SGU and do it all there. It may cost a little more money but if it will prepare you for a successful medical career then the extra year and the extra money will melt away into nothing but memories.

Considering that we all realize a little too late that life is about the journey and not the destination, go to SGU with confidence and get the most out of it. In general, when one is given a choice between a nurturing environment and a sink-or-swim environment the nurturing environment would be the given.
