NYC: St. Luke's-Roosevelt
Anyone know the 411 on this general surgery program?
Scutwork.com's review is pretty dated, and not all that encouraging.

Dude, chill out, its been like 1 day since you posted your original question.

I interviewed there this past year. It seemed like a pretty nice place. It's two hospitals, one in midtown and one more uptown. It seems like you would get a lot of trauma at the uptown hospital. I can't speak to the other specialties.

The residents for the most part seemed pretty personable. Many of referenced the work-life balance that they were trying to achieve by going to St. Lukes. They get sweet subsidized housing right by the midtown campus which would be truly awesome for people who want to be in New York.

Research seemed sparser, although I did see a resident presenting a poster at a conference that I was recently attending. No more than one year of research is allowed, and for a minority of each class, which could be both good and bad.

Fellowships after seemed heavy on colorectal and (I think) laparoscopic. If you want to be a CT/transplant/surg onc person, I don't know what your odds would be.

The program director seemed to be a really nice guy. Young and making a very concerted effort towards improving the didactics that the residents get. Their ABSITE scores are significantly improving. The average board score of the people that there were taking was something rediculous like 240 if I remember correctly.

Good luck.
