Hey,

If no information is told regarding the stain in FA histological specimens, is it safe to assume that the stain used for a specimen is always H&E?

I had a PAS stain question on Uworld (I think I was told it was though). I would say becareful to not assume all stains are H&E at this point.

Depends on what you're looking at. Crypto is acid-fast stain, for instance, as is mycobacterium (blue background with red-staining organism). Silver stain is HY for pneumocystis pneumonia. Prussian blue (Perl) is for iron/asbestos. Giemsa does a lot of stuff, including Histo.
