Anyone know where I can find a copy? I'm curious as to how they match seeing as they don't have grades!

gabi, i heard from a stanford med student that because of the lack of grades med students are stressed out
so rather than a class of completely relaxed students, people feel obligated to do crazy things outside of the books to distinguish themselves
do you get this sense at all?

also, do people who choose not to do the 5 year plan end up doing well in the match? my understanding is that 75% of the students stay for 5

Thanks. Those are some impressive lists...I guess the lack of grades must not hurt Stanford grads.. Why did only 65 out of 85ish students participate in the Match last year though?

Probably doing an extra year? Just a guess... could be wrong.

But even if they're doing an extra year, it should all pretty much even out b/c there should be extras who entered med school 5 yrs ago too...

And by the way, why exactly do so many students at Stanford do 5 years? Do they spend a year doing research?

1. the majority of my classmates - 90% are overall pretty chill
2. the people who do seek out opportunities is because they are truly interested in the subject matter, want the additional experience, exposure, and NOT because they feel the need to distinguish themselves. Of course, there's always 5-10% of people who's reasoning is that, but that's everywhere. in addition, stanford seeks truly outstanding, creative, and independent individuals, who are not just content with being medical students. the people that chose to come to stanford are into more than just learning medicine, and will have a broad range of interests....
3. only 65 student entered the match because given our wonderful clinical yrs flexibility people discovered new interests in their clinical yr, and decide to do something else, which may add another 1-2 yrs....of either doing international work, having a family, starting a new company, doing clinical or basic science research, working doing something else before they enter their residency works, writing books, novels, working for govt, getting MPHs, PhD, JDs, MBAs, M.Ed..... 😍 😍 etc.....
4. the % of people who take time off varies, and I would not be able to concretely state that only 75% take 5 yrs. i am not able to speak on behalf of those who take 4 vs. 5 and compare their match list results...my guessing is that they do, but those are prolly the classmates that are not chill. LOL  b/c they are forced to be gunners :meanie: :meanie:

hopes this helps,
