I have an interview at Stanford this Friday, so I'm flying into San Fran on Thursday night and staying at the SLAC guest house. The only problem is that my flight is supposed to arrive at 10:45 PM, which happens to be after all the trains and buses stop running (at least according to their websites). Does anyone know how I can get to the SLAC that late? Or do I have to take a cab from SFO? The cheaper the better, but I'm kind of desperate now, so any suggestions would be appreciated!

Also, does anyone know if the Marguerite runs from the SLAC to the med school, or is there a shuttle I can take?

Thanks in advance for your help!

that's pretty damn late to fly into SFO. i don't think the shuttles run that late.

the drive to stanford is 20-40 minutes, so that's gonna cost you a fortune in cab rates. 🙁
do you know anyone in the SF area?

i'd take a supershuttle to your SLAC place (is that on campus?). supershuttle is like 15 bucks to anywhere usually and you don't need a reservation, you just go find a blue van and tell them where you are going. print some directions from the internet and bring them with you.

i just know the margueritte as the shuttle from the caltrain to stanford. can't answer that one.

i think the marguerite runs from SLAC to the med school, although you may have to change buses. you can check out the marguerite map/schedule at http://transportation.stanford.edu

The SLAC has its own shuttle that can take you to the Medical school in the morning, talk to the people there they are really nice.
To get to stanfors Try renting a car it might be cheaper look into enterprise. I took a shuttle to the school and it cost me $30 but that was from San Jose. There is a train that I took back and that only cost $3.

Your best bet is probably to rent a car at the airport and just drive to the SLAC.

Thanks for all the responses, everyone.

DoctorKevin - do the supershuttles run that late? And all the way from the airport to campus? That would be a godsend...

Otherwise it looks like it's gonna have to be a cab. Any ideas on what the cab fare would be, just so I can be sure to keep enough cash on me?

I know I should have planned this out earlier, but I really thought there would be some decent public transportation before midnight. I was banking on Caltrain or the KX bus, but unless my plane arrives really early, I won't be able to make either of those. 🙁

the supershuttle runs wherever and whenever you want it to run. its like a cab but shared with other people. just call its like 1800 bluevan or something. try to set it up ahead of time or just ask if this would work.

The horrible public transportation is what i hate most about the Bay Area.

Most stanford undergrads take the South and East Bay shuttle (408-225-4444 / 800-548-4664) to get to campus. I believe it is $22 from SFO and $15 from SJC.

Cab fare is around $50 from SFO.

best of luck!

if there is any way you could change your flight to San Jose that would cut down how far you have to travel (it is about 25-30 minutes from Stanford compared to the 40-45 from SFO). good luck!

Hi PianoGirl--

The shuttles are quite easy, and as DrKevin and Looseygoosey said you can just pick on up from right outside the airport. It shouldn't be more than $25, and when you're leaving the airport, go towards baggage claim, you'll see signs for Shuttles, follow those (it's up one floor from the actual baggage claim). Then if you have a reservation, you're set, just find the shuttle. If not, it's no big deal, they constantly have shuttles waiting around to pick up people. Just tell them where you're going (ie. Palo Alto) and they'll let you know if they go there, how much it costs etc. You should be there w/in an hour.
Oh, and they run all night long...

good luck on the interview

Hey everyone - thanks again for the advice. I took a SuperShuttle and it cost $23 to get to the SLAC guest house, in case anyone is thinking of doing that.

Good luck with all of your interviews!
