stanford vs yale??

hey guys,

anyone trying to choose between stanford and yale? and even if you are not, what are your objective thoughts? which school would you rather your doctor be from?

I am just want to warn you that most people reading this post are going to equate your question to some of these...

"What is a better bag Gucci or Prada? Like OMG what do you think?"

or

"Daddy says I can only drive a porsche or a BMW? Which one would you pick?"

It's like when John Edwards tries to be "down with the people" and spends $400 on a haircut.

I guess don't be suprised if you get a lot of those types of responses.

As for my opinion I would go to neither of them 'cause my school rocks but there you go.

The schools are pretty similar, but you have San Francisco nearby and FANTASTIC weather for most of the year (vs. 6 months of slush and snow). Go with your gut though. You can't go wrong.

I just made this decision, and I went with Stanford. The financial aid that allows you to get paid for research and teaching assistantships to lower your debt was a big sell for me. Oh yeah, that, and no winter. Beach 20 mins away, mountains with skiing ~3 hrs away. I just figured I would be happier in Palo Alto than New Haven. That, and be a lot less in debt.

If you are interested working with some biomedical engineers Stanford is a ton better than Yale. On the other hand if you want to work with a bunch of malpractice lawyers Yale is a lot better.

If I were you I would go to Yale and make friends with the law school students there. That way they may help you when you are getting sued by a Harvard lawyer 😀

You can drive up to San Francisco for the weekend. If you are not gay, go to Stanford anyway and drive up to San Francisco for the weekend. Gay or not gay, San Francisco kills New Haven (Boring!).

I was in this boat. I chose Yale. Superior match list, and the facilities at Stanford don't hold a freakin' candle to those at Yale.

YALE- ahh...location not soo great, it snows, kinda interesting curriculm...

I'd go w/ Stanford b/c i'm from Cali and I like sunshine. I got waitlisted at Stanford (on the plain not so sexy waitlist)---so I think I'll withdraw...

The weather is actually much nicer in Palo Alto than in San Francisco. Less fog, and warmer pretty much year round (but very rarely hot).

As for the schools themselves, I have no idea.

Both are excellent schools... Stanford has no grades for all four years and they still do incredibly well on their boards and matching... California is great... I personally liked Yale because of the students that I met there... I can handle leaving Cali, having lived here most of my life. If you haven't tried out California living you should definitely go Stanford.

Go to Yale. They match better, and you'll have a greater chance of marrying rich.

Also, I need to get off this first alternate thing at Stanford.

But, on a serious note, Stanford has better location, comparable matches, better financial aid, better vibe, etc. etc. etc.

Unless you like the east coast, then actually Yale would come out on top.

I live less than 30 mins from Yale. If you're talking about location, Stanford blows it out of the water. Most of New Haven's trashy and the winter sucks up here. I'm hoping by some stroke of luck I can get into a school out in Cali. because the weather out there blows CT out of the water. I love it out there.

You'll hear views back and forth (New Haven is not so bad, etc.) but between its academics and the far, far better quality of life at Stanford, this really should not be too hard of a decision.
