Does anybody know what the typical start date is for internships? I have heard that they often begin the last week of June for orientation so that they're ready to start working on July 1st. Just trying to figure out how many weeks I'll have off between graduation and internship . . . Thanks! 🙂

I wouldn't make any set in stone plans for the last week and a half of June or so and I know people that started as early as the middle of June. Most programs probably stick to starting the last week of June.

Most places I've asked that question (in the Chicago area) responded with an official June 24th start date with a few days to one week of orientation days. They've tried to move to this date so that when we're done one year later, we'll have about a week or so to move to/get started at our next program.

Assume that you will be busy starting June 15 at the latest and you should be fine.

If you're moving a long distance to a city you're unfamiliar with, a little extra time will be beneficial before you start. I have classmates who showed up the day before orientation started who were still shopping for furniture and unpacking in September.

There's a thread in the Gen Res Forum with the same topic - you might want to check it out.

I've heard of people starting as early as June 13 and as late as June 30th. HIGHLY depends on the program:

1) you may start early for orientation, ACLS, etc.

2) you may start early to actually work (ie, they will start you on the rotations before July 1 to replace the Chiefs that have left, and everyone moves up a level)

3) you may or may not be paid for orientation

Check with the program after you match. They should be able to give you some idea of when you'll be expected to be there.

Some places have been telling me as early as June 19th....

That is the earliest start date I have heard of thus far.
