Does anyone know what is involved with starting a SP subspecialty fellowship (GU, GI, gyn, etc) that doesn't currently exist at your home institution? Since these aren't boarded, there isn't any ACGME paperwork and obviously not much oversight either. It would seem that if you have sufficient cases, willing and trained faculty, and a funding source, it shouldn't be difficult. Any ideas??

True. Funding is often the big hurdle. That and someone on staff who is willing to direct the fellowship and justify it to Mr or Dr Moneybags. Fellows in non-accredited fellowships are often given academic appointments (as lecturers) but of course are PAID like fellows. ;)
