Hello All,

I was just wondering if anyone has experience with starting a GPR or AEGD program late. I know that most of them start on July 1st to give people time to finish up graduation requirements if they're not done by graduation day. I know that I definitely will not be done by May 22 which is my graduation day. I'm not mentioning this at any of my interviews, obviously, but what happens if July 1st comes around, and I still need a week or two to deliver my last crown, or do my last denture adjustment, etc. Has anyone needed to make arrangements to start late, or even take some vacation days to head back to the dental school and deliver that last crown?

Typically speaking, your school will know a few months before graduation if you'll be going to your GPR or not based on how your requirements are going. If your close, don't worry you'll be at your GPR (you may literally finish your dental school requirements and have your GPR start the next day, but you'll be there). Afterall, the GPR gets alot of $$ for the federal goverment for your training, and if you don't show up they don't get the $$ and that can and often is a big chunk of the dental departments budget at that institution. The last thing that your school wants to to is tell your GPR that you'll be there and then say you won't at the last minute, that's a sure fire way to assure that your dental school will never, ever get another graduate into that program.

So, if your Dean feels confident about you along about February, you'll be at your GPR on July 1
