Hey everyone, I'm currently a junior in college and in the past year I have just started to get serious about optometry. Unfortunately, my major isn't in the sciences and there is no way I can complete all the prerequisites in time. I go to a private college and I can't afford to continue going here past four years. How do I manage this? Do I take community college courses to finish the prerequisites after graduation? Would those be looked at?
Thank you!

Just enroll in a post-bacc program at a regular 4 year city or state college where its much cheaper. There you can fulfill all of your pre-reqs and then take the OAT, then apply.

Community college credits are accepted at most, if not all, optometry schools. However, doing a post-bacc (enrolling as a non-degree student) at a four year university, as was previously suggested, would be a much better option for your application as well as your preparation level. Since you're a non-traditional applicant, it's important to show the admissions committees that you can handle a full courseload of science classes.

as was said they do take college courses... for me.. i took 1 year at a college & transferred to university (mostly because they didn't have all the prerequisites i needed).. but i'm really glad i did this because the optometry schools i applied to looked at which schools i took the prereqs in (they preferred uni or at least taking most of your prereqs in uni)... as blyssful said uni better prepares you for optometry school.
