Hi all, in about one month I am starting my medical technology program and was needing advice on how to approach the program. Obviously I want to do my best, how demanding is an MT program? My program is recommending that if you must work, to work only up to 10 hours per week. My long term goal is to go to osteopathic med school, probably as a non-trad as I still have several med school pre-reqs to take and not the highest gpa, but want to focus on becoming a medical technologist first. Any help is greatly appreciated.

MT programs are HARD, I just graduated from mine this past May and am also looking to go to DO school. Prepare to give up your social life, I worked about 20-25 hours a week while going through it and pulled a 4.0, not because I'm a genius, but because I worked my butt off and had the motivation. Be ready to work hard. It is very gratifying though when you have a great job after college making almost twice what your friends make for the most part.

Depending on how long your program is it can be very demanding, I had all my courses over a year of micro, immunohematology, hematology, immunology, pathology, molecular, chem etc......but you learn alot and pretty much have a job right out of school, my program was 20 credits a semester for a year......i had no life but did great......it's hard be prepared you'll learn alot though

Thanks for the post, I'm very interested in starting the program as I really enjoyed taking microbiology (with an excellent professor) but know there are more branches in laboratory science. My program runs with 14 credits, 22 credits, then 14 credits. Any advice on handling the course load along with my working part time? Or better yet, how you did your best in your MT program? What did you find helped the most in taking on nothing but science courses, study habits, resources online? Thanks again
