im starting ochem this semester. can anyone let me in on what it's like and what i need to know to do well. i havent even seen any kind of ochem b4 so it might be different for me.

It's NOT as hard as you have made it in to be. I took both organic I and II with labs during the summer and did fine (one month for each). And no I didn't take it at a CC either, not that there's anything wrong with that. If you have to know I made 3A's and one B. The B was in organic I lab. It is very doable. Don't worry about it, yet. 🙂

Don't stress. It is mainly a lot of memorization. And everything builds upon the early chapters, so if you are lost early on GET HELP.

Best piece of advice I ever got about organic was to learn how the functional groups behave. If you learn the general behaviour of a functional group, it will save you lots of headaches that you will get if you try to memorize every teeny tiny reaction in your O-chem book.

Oh yeah, and don't let the person next to you in lab put phenophthalein in your diet coke....DIRE consequences ensue 😀

Off topic, but all I can say to that is ROFLMAO!!!!

I hope it didn't happen to you 🙁

Learn how to push electrons and you're golden. Seriously. Know what the electrons on functional groups like to do and you can pretty much figure out any orgo problem.

Thanks guys, this was really good advice!
