Anyone have an idea of someone with a MPH with a focus in Health Economics/Mgt and a PharmD would start at?

I am thinking of health outcomes or health economics positions with the PharmD.

What is the outlook for this type of job?

If there is a better place for this thread, let me know.

Any website suggestions are appreciated as well.

I actually know 3 people with that combo, unless you specifically know why you want that degree and there's a specific reason you need it for, it's just a useless title for behind your name. Your not going to want a regular MPH job since it pays less than a pharmacist job. The ones that have jobs that might use both get the normal pharmacist salary, sure maybe the MPH got you that specific job but as a pharmacist you already get compensated well, they are not going to pay you extra for a let's be honest, pretty worthless degree. Any normal pharmacist without a MPH could probably do it and many already do.

An MPH isn't enough to do the things you would want to do as an health economist. An MPH + PharmD is usually not that great of a combo in this case given the curriculum you would cover would not include any economic /statistical/health service research methodologies that is the bread and butter for a health economist. But don't let the nay-sayers get you down, if you have a well thought out plan and know exactly what you want to do, go for it. MPH is much easier than a PharmD and you should be done in a year if you pace yourself (MD's do this all the time). A MHA through the public health school can be very similar to what you are considering.

EDIT- Health economics is not very clinical either.

My preceptor is a PharmD/MPH and she doesn't do anything special with it...doesn't seem like its by choice either. Doesn't seem like there are any obvious jobs that would be a good match for the dual degree unless you want to teach at a pharmacy school

I couldn't not agree more...

Where I come from, you can't be the DOP without at least a masters. If you want to work for a government agency, it may make you more competitive. If you want to go into health care admin, I suggest the MHA.

I think that it is dependent on WHY you want to get the MPH... If I were to obtain an MPH, I would want to work for the WHO or the UN. That way I'd get to travel a bit!

If I received my MPH along with my PharmD, I would probably work for the UN or WHO... I would like to take it Globally!

Good god! You do realize that MPH has specialties that include more than just epidemiology. There are much broader applications to the degree. OP is more interested in health economics.
