Starting to Study for COMLEX

Hey everyone,

I just finished my 1st year a month or so ago. I want to start studying for the COMLEX (I know a little early, but I want to do it for an hour a day or so).

Can someone give me a book list to buy? I can't seem to find an up-to-date one on the site. I was hoping to get these books ordered in the next few days.

I would ONLY review things that you have already done in class. For most schools, that's micro and physio. Extremity anatomy lesions would be great to review - especially brachial plexus stuff. First Aid would be a good guide for what's important in Micro and any systems you may have covered.

After going through years 1 and 2, I have thus far felt very prepared for OMM without even studying OMM, and so I wouldn't worry about Savarese until you start your prep after year 2.

Thanks. I just looked on amazon and found the first aid 2010, but it's for the USMLE, is this still ok for the COMLEX? Sorry, this is the first time I've looked into the boards, so you'll have to excuse the newbie questions.

No problem, ask any questions you want! YES, First Aid is the book of choice for both Comlex and USMLE. I believe there IS a FA made specifically for Comlex..... don't bother, just get the USMLE one. For comlex-style questions, you will use Savarese and Combank toward the end of your 2nd year.

Learning FA is key to scoring high on both exams.

Most people on SDN would probably tell you to enjoy your summer instead of studying for boards... in a way, I agree. I tried to learn stuff over my MS1 break and it didn't help much at all to be honest. The problem is that you have less than half of the pieces to a very large and complex puzzle... and so reading a lot of these review books is just not that helpful. Still, looking back, do I regret studying in the summer? No, not really... just make sure you keep your priorities straight, don't spend too much time doing it, and do NOT get burnt out! You need to bring your A game to MS2 because doing well in coursework is the best possible thing to prepare for boards at this point.

Thanks so much! I hear you about getting burned out...I just plan on doing an hour a day max. I'm only going to review the things we've learned. We haven't done micro or pharm yet, so I realize there's a ton of info I do not have. I'm doing research and have some down time, so I can review during those periods and will not exceed an hour a day.

Quick question for you, how much anatomy, embryo and histo is there? I do not like histo at all....anatomy and embryo are good subjects for me, but wondering how much anatomy is on the COMLEX?

One more for you, when did you start studying hardcore for the boards and when did you take them?
