Hi,

I'm wondering which osteopathic schools are particularly hard/easy to get into as an out of state resident. I'm particularly interested in NOVA, OU-COM, PCOM, NYCOM and WVCOM. ANy help would be appreciated. thanks

out of those u listed, i think nova and possibly nycom are the easier ones to get into as an out of stater.

I am from NY and what I understand is that NYCOM is particular more friendly towards its in state residents. However, NYCOM does admit a greater amount of students per class per year so that may be an advantage to you.

I wouldnt necessarily say that NYCOM is more friendly towards out of staters, but because they admit more people, your chances increase just a bit more than say LECOM which has a smaller class size each year.

OUCOM is fairly out-of-state friendly. The only thing that you have to keep in mind is that if you are from out of state you have to sign a contract which obligates you to do either 1. stay and practice for 5 years in the state of ohio 2. Do an osteopathic residency in a CORE hospital or 3. Buy yourself out of the contract.

how much is it to buy yourself out of it?

For PCOM, the school leans toward accepting more PA residents. I think I noticed on their website that 67% of their students are from PA. Also, there are stats on this board that show (for 2003) you have about 80% chance of acceptance after an interview if you are from PA. If you are out of state, then the chance of acceptance after interview is about 40%. That surprised me the most.

to be honest I have no idea. I would say that it is quite a lot of money.

You have a much higher chance of getting in if you live in a state bordering the state's school or at least in the region. Also consider throwing out the idea that you would consider practicing in the state where your school is.
